“The Salvation Army has refused assistance to gay couples unless they break up and “go straight”, Muslim families who refuse to attend “Christian Bible classes”, kids who can’t prove their immigration status, and more.”

Admittedly, i only skimmed the article, but this quote alone should give you a pretty good idea of how awful they are.

I want everybody to understand what happened here. They refused to take in a trans woman, and she died as a result. They killed a trans woman. Killed. Because they “disagreed with her lifestyle”.

i straight up fucking tell salvation army people that i don’t support organizations that endanger and kill queer and trans youth. only one person has asked for further explanation. fucking complacent pieces of shit.

they also:

dehumanize the people they do help

literally use scare and humiliation tactics to make you comply with their ridiculous guidelines

use people they help as free labor while other parties get paid for it

force people they help to take care of other people’s children against their wishes, a responsibility that’s unfair for force on people

take in prisoners at some of their facilities, so literally that facility is a mini prison where everyone must wear id tags with locking doors that need security keys and 24/7 security guards

get paid for housing these prisoners without mentioning it to the public

lock people they help into these facilities, including multiple women and children (14) into a single room in these facilities

subject people they help to bedbugs and then threaten everyone in the facility with punishment when someone has the audacity to contact child protectice services on them after a child had to go to the hospital for a sever skin infection

take away people’s sole possessions

don’t allow food and drink in the facility when their own staff is allowed to have them right in front of you

do invasive background checks

do humiliating drug tests (pissing in front of a security guard; literally they have to SEE you)

threatening you when you can’t comply with the above because you’re too nervous

do not help men unless they’re in detox

do not help the sick and disabled

this list is from personal experience and i’m probably even forgetting some of it

the holidays are coming up soon, friendly reminder

And this is why my family never gives money to the guy with the bell.

And you know what? There aren’t any charities like this connected to Halloween.
